Nia-Alexsandra Wallace is a New York based artist who uses self portraiture as a means to explore self-reflection. Her work covers themes such as spirituality, culture and love. She draws inspiration from Black contemporary artists such as Kerry James Marshall. Nia experiments with color theory through her expansive palette within each of her paintings. She uses her artwork as an intimate view into her life in hopes to further connect with her audience. This is done through the topics she decides to cover such as generational trauma and mental illness. She wants her artwork to reflect the lives of Black people and the overall Black experience.
